The Copyright Office Renamed as the Department of Cultural Industries and Copyright

8/12/2026

On 27 July 2026, the Government issued Decree No. 298/2026/ND-CP providing for the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This Decree takes effect from 28 July 2026 (Decree 298). Under this Decree, the Copyright Office is renamed as the Department of Cultural Industries and Copyright.

In substance, the Copyright Office had previously already been assigned the functions and tasks of advisory and management of the cultural industries sector, in addition to its role in advisory and management of copyright matters. Accordingly, this renaming is intended to more accurately and fully reflect the actual advisory and management functions and tasks of the managing authority. In addition, the inclusion of “cultural industries” in the name is intended to underscore the importance of the State’s policy on developing Vietnamese culture. Furthermore, this renaming also reflects the connection between creativity and cultural industries: cultural industries are built and developed on the basis of creativity, copyright and related rights, and the protection of copyright goes hand in hand with promoting the development of creative economic values.
